The Bluff Point Fiasco

Bill Beacham: Candidate for Mayor

Township of Greater Madawaska, 2026

Being Mayor is more than attending meetings, community events and barbeques. It’s about providing leadership.

In this release I am providing one example of the failure of the current Mayor to provide leadership.

Much has been written on this subject of the Bluff Point dispute. In summary, the Township has been involved in litigation with a resident couple since May 2021. As reported by CTV in January 2025 the couple has spent in excess of $500,000.00 in legal fees.

For those of you that are not familiar with the subject or would like additional information please go to the Facebook page Calabogie Accountability Transparency Coalition.

As I meet residents of the Township I am asked “Whose side are you on?”

Let me tell you first, whose side I am not on! I’m not on the side of politicians who promise and then don’t deliver.

I’m not on the side of politicians who keep secret the facts that we all need to get this ridiculous dispute, running for years, wasting thousands of your money, OVER!

I am not on the side of a Mayor who simply dismisses the fiasco as “an insurance matter”.

This is a failure of LEADERSHIP and I hold the Mayor accountable.

As your Mayor, I pledge this. I am on the side of openness and transparency, not secret meetings.

I will force an end to this humiliating failure, or I will explain in detail, with all the facts laid out, why I could not push the two sides to a decision. And I will not run again.

I will have more to put before you as part of my vision for a Greater Madawaska in the days to come.
