Policy Statement No. 5 · October 4, 2026
Daycare Facilities and Landfill Diversion
Bill Beacham: Candidate for Mayor
Township of Greater Madawaska, 2026
Daycare Facilities
Our community currently has no dedicated daycare facility, and I believe that is an important issue for families and for the health of our municipality. Access to reliable, affordable childcare can help attract and retain young families, support local employers and strengthen our community.
If elected Mayor, I would propose establishing an ad hoc committee to examine the need for childcare, consult with parents, businesses, childcare providers and other levels of government, and identify practical options for encouraging a daycare facility in our municipality.
Landfill Diversion
I believe our transfer stations should do more than simply dispose of unwanted materials and garbage. We should look for opportunities to divert usable items before they become waste. Where practical and safe, items such as dishes, tools, and other household goods could be separated for reuse rather than sent for disposal. This would reduce unnecessary waste, and give usable items a second life in our community.
I would support exploring a practical, cost-effective reuse and diversion program, perhaps volunteer run. This has been done successfully in other municipalities. (i.e. Tay Valley Township)
